We came to Sicily on a cruise after many years and we wished to concentrate in just one day as many venues as possible.
Carlo has been just great! We arrived at Catania port in the late morning and moved straight to the picturesque fishing village of Marzamemi.
After a quick delicious snack with Sicilian arancini we made a short but interesting visit to the natural reserve of Vendicari, where we have been able to photograph
Pink Flamingos, Herons and other migratory birds in their resting sanctuary.
We then moved to the Villa Romana del Tellaro to admire the wonderful mosaics recently unearthed, depicting tigers and magnificent scenes of the life of a patrician roman family of the late empire.
Just few minutes later we were strolling around the center of Noto, the capital of Sicilian Baroque architecture, with its imposing palaces and churches.
We then moved to Syracuse, one of the richest and most influential cities of the so called Magna Grecia. We visited the island of Ortigia, the wonderful Cathedral and the Fonte Aretusa before moving to the archaelogical area were we visited the Greek Theater, the Roman Theater and the Ear of Dionisio.
Finally we returned in time to Catania to board our ship in the evening.
Carlo has been just great! Not only in planning and organizing such a condensed tour in few hours totally hassle-free, but also providing us plenty of information. He is a naturalist, but he is also passionate in history and art and has made our short visit to this part of Sicily a really wonderful experience! Bravo!
