We'll visit 4 authentic eateries plus a local bar, including street food from the oldest stall in town, the only restaurant in town serving cuisine from the Kula ethnic minority, and sipping beer while watching the cows come home (literally) during sunset in a rural village. Plus a lot more!
My hosts and I have worked hard to create a truly unique experience that you can't get anywhere else. My hosts and our vendors all have deep roots in Siem Reap, and our entire menu is produced within Siem Reap province, down to the home-made fermented fish sauce and garlic-chili sauces.

Siem Reap, Siem Reap, Cambodia In Temple Town, there’s endless touristy restaurants pushing the same myth and menu about Cambodian food: beef loklak, fish amok, and green curry. But if you look closely, there are no local customers, and the chefs are eating something different in the back room. Millions of people come to Siem Reap completely missing what food here truly is.
That’s why we spent months on squat boats, knee deep in mud with water buffalo, and exploring countryside villages where locals eat the real stuff. Because it’s not just about the food, but where it comes from and who prepares it. We’ve built strong relationships with the local community to offer you an incredibly unique and authentic experience.
We’ve met the servers, the chefs, and the farmers behind every grain of rice and drop of fish sauce, to put together a one-of-a-kind experience. The food you’ll eat features ingredients and recipes that are made in Siem Reap by locals whose roots date back to the Era of God-Kings. 30 minutes
9V46+V2Q, Wat Bo Rd, Krong Siem Reap, Cambodia Kula Cuisine: Visit the only restaurant in town serving cuisine from this small ethnic minority group originating in northwest Cambodia. You’ll love their use of local herbs and homemade pickles to create a unique flavor. 39 minutes
Phnom Krom, Cambodia Get transported to a different world where water buffalo roam the rice fields and locals pick lotus seeds for a snack. We'll visit Brother Vet and his stilted home for a meal in a village older than Angkor. Eat seasonal ingredients where civil war, God Kings, and European trading envoys passed for centuries.
60 minutes
9V24+G74, Krong Siem Reap, Cambodia If a street food stall can turn into a restaurant, it means they made it. It also means that this bbq shop is one of the oldest in town. Come find out why it’s our go-to for beef skewers and what we eat ’em with! 30 minutes
Street 05 Siem Reap, Krong Siem Reap 17656, Cambodia Banana Leaf Salad, Curry, and More: A great local restaurant should cater to locals just as much as visitors. We’ll visit our favorite spot for classic Khmer flavors that remind us of good-ole homestyle cooking. 30 minutes

A truly unique welcoming experience by your guide Heng! With her explicit knowledge of the city, the village life, local cuisines and her gentle and friendly nature…. I really had a very special day! Such a great way to preserve and encourage tourists to explore the richness of lost food and also meet new people! Loved the fish dishes, the noodles, the Pandan tea, the banana roll…almost everything!!!

My mom and I kicked off our very first day in Cambodia with the Lost Plates Old Siem Reap Food Tour, and I’m so glad we did. Riding through the windy, rainy streets in a tuk-tuk set the perfect mood for the evening, and the food that followed made it even better.
Our guide, Heng, was such a gem. She shared not just how dishes were made, but the stories and traditions behind them — things you’d never get from just ordering at a restaurant. She was friendly, funny, and made the whole group feel at ease. By the end, it felt like we were out with friends, not strangers.
Every stop felt unique and authentic, with places I don’t think we ever would have found on our own. The highlight for me was dinner at Mr. Wat’s home (apologies if I’ve spelled that wrong). Sitting down with him, hearing his stories, and sharing a meal felt so genuine — like we were being welcomed into Cambodian life, not just shown a tourist version of it.
All in all, it was the perfect introduction to Siem Reap: amazing food, hidden spots, and a guide who made it all feel personal and fun. Thank you, Heng, for such a memorable night!

Our criteria for most tours is to get as close to authentic as and away from the tourist route where possible. What a great way to experience Cambodia dining with the locals at their favourite eating places. We also had the privilege of having a meal with a gentleman at his house, a real inside look at how they live day to day. The tour delivered what we were looking for and with our wounderful tour guides Heng & Sivhong our night was elevated from tour to experience. We are richer for going on this tour & highly recommend it for an authentic experience.
We always double-check the availability with our local partners for each booking. Even though this is usually a swift process, it can take up to 24 hours. Once this process is completed you will receive your voucher or ticket by email. If our local partner is not able to confirm your booking we will offer you the best possible alternative. If the new date and/or time doesn’t fit your itinerary, we will reimburse the full amount paid.
How great that you want to share your experience! Your feedback helps other travelers to make a better choice.
