Spean Praptos, Kampong Kdei, Cambodia Spean Praptos is a Khmer-era bridge that straddles a small river at Kampong Kdei, a small town about sixty kilometers southeast of the Angkor Archaeological zone. The bridge is built of laterite and runs 87 meters east-west, comprising 20 sets of corbelled arches. Although it was constructed during the reign of Jayavarman VII in the late 12th or early 13th centuries, it is in such good condition that the bridge continued to carry traffic along Highway 6 well into the 20th century. It is also wide enough to easily carry modern vehicles running in both directions, although two-axle vehicles are no longer permitted to cross. 30 minutes

Cambodia The archaeological site of Sambor Prei Kuk, “the temple in the richness of the forest” in the Khmer language, has been identified as Ishanapura, the capital of the Chenla Empire that flourished in the late 6th and early 7th centuries AD. The property comprises more than a hundred temples, ten of which are octagonal, unique specimens of their genre in South-East Asia. Decorated sandstone elements in the site are characteristic of the pre-Angkor decorative idiom, known as the Sambor Prei Kuk Style. Some of these elements, including lintels, pediments and colonnades, are true masterpieces. The art and architecture developed here became models for other parts of the region and lay the ground for the unique Khmer style of the Angkor period.

This pre-Angkorian temple complex is one of the early capital cities in the countries of Southeast Asia, more particularly the Kingdom of Chenla. The layout of this site that covers nearly 25 square kilometers, is home to three main monument complexes that nicely symbolize the meaning of the name of the site in the Khmer language: “temple in the luxuriant forest”, a complex of brick constructions harmoniously spread out in the forest with their characteristic octagonal towers, typical of the so-called Chenla style, dating back to the 6th and 7th centuries A.D. 60 minutes
