ASTONISHING OF ANGKOR WAT: Every visitor walking through the Angkor Wat Temple complex will be astonished by its vastness (covering an area of 400 acres). Because of its complexity and symmetry, visitor’s attention may be either attracted or distracted. Looking from a distance, this grand temple appears to be a colossal mass with series of elevated towers, chambers, courtyards and enclosure walls at different levels. The central tower (213-foot-tall). Angkor Wat was originally built for Hindu God SRI VISHNU, whose monolithic sculpture measuring 10.8 feet tall is depicted with eight arms. Some of the pillars in the courtyard have inscriptions in Sanskrit and Khmer language. Here is a collection of reliefs of Vishnu, Hindu puranic events, Dancing Apsaras and motifs inside the courtyards. The largest religious construction in the world is surrounded by a rectangular moat which measures 1.5km by length and 1.3km by width.

The name “Bayon” was a French transcription by European explorers in 19th-Century. Scholars associate the figure with 4 faces with the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, who appears with multiple faces, an important deity in Mahayana Buddhism. However, the faces have also been associated with the multi-faced, Hindu God, 'Brahma', who is the Creator of the Universe.
