    The Dutch Square is the most famous landmark in Melaka, located in the historic district Bandar Hilir. The square is also referred to as Red Square due to the red-painted buildings that surround it. The most notable of these buildings is the City Hall, also known as Stadthuys. The red buildings were erected during the 17th and 18th centuries. They all bring forth the distinctive features of Dutch architecture during that time. Each building offers large windows and decorative details made from wrought iron. A mixture of British and Portuguese architecture is reflected in the Tan Ben Swee Clock Tower. Its design was taken from the eponymous legendary keris which belonged to Hang Tuah. The tower offers a 360-degree panoramic view of Malacca City and beyond, and is able to accommodate 80 people per viewing session, which lasts about 7 minutes.

We thought it might be nice to visit Malaysia given we were going all the way to Singapore from the UK but we weren't sure whether it would be worth it for a day...it really, really was. From start to finish Andy was fantastic. He got in touch straight away and helped me plan the day trip. He picked us up at a great time which meant border crossings were effortless. He took us on a beautiful scenic drive through Malaysia in a spacious air-conditioned car. When we wanted to chat he gave us tons of interesting information and had fantastic stories to tell. When we nodded off after a long day he continued to drive us safely home. Malaka is truly beautiful, the bustling streets smelled of incense from the many temples dotted around and were a feast for the eyes. The scenic boat ride was a great opportunity to see the colourful shops lining the river as well as some local wildlife (water monitors!). We had delicious local food recommended by our guide (the green pancakes filled with coconut were really good!). Andy also accommodated reasonable requests for changes to the tour which allowed us to visit some places more out of the way and get a feel for the real Malaysia. We felt like this really was an authentic Malaysian experience that we will never forget and Andy himself made it very special, it really was a privilege to meet him and have him as a guide. I can't recommend this tour enough. Thank you Andy!!!

Andy is incredibly kind, capable and intelligent. Although the impression I got was Malaysia was generally safe, I was still unsure about going by myself. But all of that went away when I went together with Andy. He handled all the interactions in Malay and made it easy to get around. I felt completely safe and appreciated that he takes great pride in making sure his guests have the best experiance possible. Whether it was navigating Jonker walk, explaining cultural nuances of the Baba-Nyonya culture, or showing local foods Andy always went the extra mile. He's also great to talk to, knows a lot about the world and is a friend to all people from different backgrounds.

Yes, an incredibly enlightening and interesting day trip from Singapore to Melaka and back can be relaxing and fun. For those who aren’t in the business of shipping or of war, the Malaccan Strait is arguably the single most important body of water on earth. So we wanted to see the town that used to control it. We left driving & guiding to Andy, and he did a great job. From a timely early morning pickup in Singapore to a safe delivery back to our hotel, Andy took very good care of us. He is a safe driver, and his van is very comfortable. We visited all the historic sites in Melaka, including a cooling tour of the town by water. Bring a hat. It can get toasty! Andy is a very thoughtful guide, and very good company. We highly recommend this tour for everyone wanting to see one of the highlights of Malaysian and world culture. Sent from my iPhone
