Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna, Vienna, Austria
Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna, Vienna, Austria Built by Emperor Franz Joseph to house the splendid imperial collections, it is now one of the world’s most important museums. Artefacts from ancient Egypt to classical antiquity to the late 18th century document the patronage and connoisseurship of the art-loving members of the House of Habsburg. In the Picture Gallery you can see celebrated master-pieces by Rubens, Rembrandt, Raphael, Vermeer, Velázquez, Titian and Durer, as well as the world’s largest collection of works by Bruegel. At the Kunstkammer Vienna goldsmith’s works such as the famous saliera by Benvenuto Cellini, sculptural masterpieces, filigree works in ivory, valuable timepieces and complex automata by the best and most famous artists of the day – each item unique in the world – provide an unrivalled cross-section through the history of art. Equally enjoyable for every art-lover is the magnificent building itself with its imposing staircase featuring a series of paintings on which Gustav Klimt collaborated.

Un musée à ne pas manquer avec des superbes collection de peintures de différentes époques. La collection des Rubens est impressionante. Palais superbe et les tableaux y sont bien présentés. L'exposition Holbein nous raconte une époque bien intéressante. A ne pas manquer

If there are only one or two museums to visit, with Albertina, this is one of them, already for its prodigious collection of Brueghel, then for the quality of the other works presented

Sooooo much to see. And in the end, it's just too much for one visit. Paintings, objects and then the Egyptian section... we were out and about for 4 hours and were a bit exhausted at the end. It would be better to spend one day looking at paintings and a second day looking at objects.
All in all, a must. Be careful, there are also combination tickets if you want to go to the Leopold Museum, for example.
