The museum opened in 1895. It is a museum of modern and contemporary art and design. Almost all modern movements of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries are represented in the collection.

Maybe I am biased because I love modern Art, but honestly the best museum in Amsterdam, huge collection, with a worldclass Cafe with some of the best matcha upstairs and also at the entrance. Really inspiring, definitely underrated yet better than the other muessems in the plein.

I liked the current art exhibition but my overall impression is of a very randomly curated art gallery. We had positive interactions with all the staff but their first floor cafe is truly appalling. Lovely staff at the counter but the salad we ordered came without parmesan, breadcrumbs or tomatoes,so basically just leaves. The catering staff making the food look young and inexperienced which may account for why the bread in my sandwich was stale.
