It is renowned for its three sets of bronze doors, which are one of the finest examples of renaissance art. *Other landmarks located in the Piazza del Duomo are the Loggia del Bigallo, a late Gothic building, the Opera del Duomo Museum, a museum containing many of the original works of art created for the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, the Arcivescoville and Canoncici’s palace, all located in the west zone of the square called Piazza San Giovanni.

The square is full of many original statues, such as the first public fountain of Florence, the Neptune which was done by Ammannati, or the amazing Perseus done by Cellini in the XVI century. There is also replica of David which was placed to show people where he stood before the statue stood before it was moved inside the Accademia.

Our guide Jack was very knowledgeable about Florence’s history. He also gave great insights into the sculpting of David and the significance behind many of the city’s landmarks.

Excellent tour! Our guide Viola was very knowledgeable and her love for the David and Florence was apparent. She answered all of our questions and shared lots of information about the history of Florence and life here today, including recommendations for additional sights to see and places to eat. I highly recommend this tour.

It's our experience that a guide's insights and perspectives really enhances your understanding and enjoyment of the sights. Florence was the 3rd city that we experienced with Babylon. We participated in the Michelangelo/Academia Gallery (with Viola) and Uffizzi (with Eleonara) tours. Both guides were first rate- knowledgeable, enthusiastic, friendly and humorous.
