Fagradalsfjall Active Volcano, Grindavik, Iceland The drive to the eruption side on Reykjanes peninsula leads through old lava fields and gives a first impression of the creation of Iceland and the forming of the landscape in this area.
The Hike begins with an overview of the volcanic history on the Reyjanes peninsula and the first signs of a new eruption at this place. At the lava field, we will discover the forming of new land and learn how the composition of the lava influences the appearance of the rocks. The following hike, up to the crater viewpoint will give you a breathtaking view of the lava field and the surrounding area.
The drive back to Reykjavik leads along hot springs, lakes, and mountains through the beautiful landscape of the Reykjanes peninsula.
A volcanic eruption is a natural phenomenon, therefore the activity of the eruption can change quickly and the view of hot glowing lava can not be guaranteed.
The hike takes about 1 hour to 1.5 hours in each direction (2 to 3 hours in total). 240 minutes

Seeing the lava field was amazing but the guides knowledge and explanation made it come to life, without this we wouldn’t really have known what we were looking at. The full day from start to finish was exceptional our guide Gusepi was knowledgeable entertaining, enthusiastic and made the whole day exceptional. Going in a small group was much better than on our own or with a coach full of others. You need a reasonable level of fitness as a mid range climb, walking shoes, and water essential and layers as gets cold so gloves and hat needed, but other than that just a sense of adventure and passion for learning about the world we inhabit. The others in the group also add interest as a small group so nice to meet to chat to other people.
