An historical walk and immersion into the heart of the Jewish ghetto and Cannaregio to discover the secrets of the 1st Jewish Ghetto of the world. We will avoid the tourist trail exploring an authentic, lesser-known, but incredible, well-preserved area of Venice, full of charme, enjoying the secret corners of the three ghettos of Venice. You will learn why the Serenissima Republic forced the Jewish community to live under strict rules and how they lived for centuries in Cannaregio. You will discover how changed the area in the centuries. Did you know that the word "ghetto" comes from a local venetian word? I will help you to recognize the hidden synagogues from outside and I will give you insights into the tragedy of the deportation and how the Holocaust left a deep mark on my beloved Venice. We will explore together the sestier of Cannaregio, with its beautiful streets and the venetian "skyscrapers", we will cross beautiful bridges draped in the locals' laundry, Italian style.

Lucia met us (dad, mom, adult son) at the gate on a wet rainy afternoon and was delightful and informative. She walked us through the gheto, stopping frequently to engage in describing the meaning and history of various landmarks. We did not mind the weather, as Lucia was warm and engaging throughout. She introduced us to a lovely local artist with a deep sense of history. It felt like a living link to past generations. I encourage everyone to go!

Lucia was our guide on this fascinating walk around the Jewish ghetto. She is friendly, and highly knowledgeable on the long history of Jews in Venice. It was not unexpected to hear that the Jews in Venice were treated similarly as everywhere else, and there were plenty of parallels with similar stories we've heard on trips to Oxford and Miami (amongst others). It's nice to see the ghettos preserved and being looked after but, unfortunate, that they need a permanent guard station in the area. I highly recommend Lucia and this tour.

Our tour of the Jewish ghetto with Lucia was one of the highlights of our holiday. From the very beginning of the tour till the last minute, she brought us along with her through the history of the area and the people who lived there. She seemed to have an encyclopedic knowledge, no question unanswered, but also delivered with a really balanced overview and sense of the atmosphere throughout the 500 years, the facts neatly woven into the fabric of her narrative...a very impressive guide! We would have booked another tour with her if we had had more time. Thank you Lucia ❤️
