Small group bigger experience! Plovdiv is on the 6th place for oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and the oldest in Europe. Inhabited since 4,000 B.C., beginning with a Neolithic settlement, Plovdiv has been conquered many times throughout the years by the Thracians, the Greeks and the Romans. The Thracian Temple Complex, Starosel- this is the oldest ever found royal Thracian complex with a mausoleum. It dates back to the end of the 5th century. Ceremonies, related to the cult to the Mother Goddess and Orpheus were performed in the temple. Hisarya- the settlement’s heyday was during the Roman era. In 293, Emperor Diocletian declared it a town and this marked the beginning of the construction. We will visit the Roman bath, which is the best preserved bath in the country. The baths were built in the second half of the 3rd century. Hisarya is one of the best spa centers in Bulgaria. If you wish, we will have the opportunity to take a dip in the healing water.

Plovdiv is a beautiful city with lots to see and do. Ves did an excellent job of explaining all about the sites. Wish I had more time in Plovdiv.

We had a wonderful time with Campfire BG tours on our tour of Plovdiv. This is a don't miss opportunity and we are so glad we booked this experience while we were in Sofia. Our guide was personally welcoming and so knowledgable about the key sites in Plovdiv and the history - she even took some great pictures of us and pointed out some local artists for us to stop and buy art/souvenirs from. In addition to the beautiful scenery and walking tour of Plovdiv, we loved the visit to Villa Yustina winery. It was a great capstone to the day. The tour and tasting were fabulous and at every step of the way we felt so welcomed! We cannot recommend this tour enough! Knowledgable, fun, professional, and safe, it was a full day to remember! Luyben was our guide, and he made it a great experience for us.This private tour was well organized and executed to perfection.Luyben speaks English really well and his knowledge about history is vast. We learned so much about Bulgaria's history it was delightful.
