The Jewish tour of Recife and Olinda is a very special experience for those interested in learning more about the presence of Jews and New Christians in Pernambuco between the 16th and 17th centuries. The historian guide will take you to see the main landmarks of the Jewish presence and also learn more about the Brazilian colonial economy, the socio-religious culture of the Brazilian people and also the European wars that brought Portuguese Jews from the Netherlands who were directly involved in the colonial exploration of Brazil during the 17th century. First, in the city of Olinda, you will visit some of the main churches, markets and streets of the colonial period, as well as the main vestiges of the Marrano presence in Brazil in the 16th century; in the city of Recife, the tour will be in the historic neighborhood Centro, where most of the Jewish community was concentrated during the Dutch period of the 17th century, and you will find the first public synagogue in the Americas.

Victor is very, very knowledgeable, considerate and personable. He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and were exposed to everything we wanted to see plus more. We were quite interested in seeing the synagogue and he explained its history in depth. We could not have been more pleased. Kudos to Victor. You are lucky to have him.
