Sugarloaf Cable Car Ticket

1] If you get this ticket be sure to get the front of the line option unless your'e on a budget. It will save you hours of waiting and frustration. 2] Whatever flavour of ticket you get then either 1] Print out a copy of your voucher before you go or 2] leave at least 45 mins for queueing. Once there the views are spectacular - virtually 360 degrees - giving you unprecedented views of Rio, the harbour, the forts, the outlying islands. This so much better than the views from Jesus that I cant believe that Jesus is ever recommended. The supposed spiritual experience and to say 'I've been there' are the only reasons I can see. Save your time and money and go to Sugarloaf.

The views are pretty but there are a lot of things to be careful of when you plan your visit. I do NOT recommend going for sunset because of the lines and the time it takes to get up there: • First of all: you'd be heading to the cable car spot during rush hour so it will take twice longer than normally. • The dock was not easy to find on the Uber app as there are several places named the same that are not the mountain or not the cable car dock. We had to change the address twice because of this. • Even though the cable car ride itself is very short, the wait for it was VERY LONG. Keep in mind that even if the line is not that long on the first ride, it wait could be a LOT longer for the second one because there are shops there that people might stop at before joining the line to the top. • If you go there for sunset and don't leave immediately after but decide to stay at the bar or restaurant or see the shops then you end up almost stuck on the mountain because by the time you're done with all that, everything is closing and everyone is wanting to go down. There are A LOT of people up there but the cable cars can only fit so much each trip down. OUR UNLUCKY EXPERIENCE: It was our second day in the city so we didn't know to expect such traffic. We started calling an Uber from Ipanema at around 5:30pm (totally our fault for being late), had no luck calling an Uber because that's what happens in this city during rush hour (we didn't know that yet). Then it turned out we had put in the wrong address TWICE (I've got no clue why Uber puts a SUPERMARKET by the same name above the actual mountain in the recommendations in the search) by the time we got the it was the second to last car going up and it was dark night already. The line to get to the Sugarloaf itself was scarily long, I thought they will deny us by the time we get to the cable cars because it will be closing time, luckily this line moved faster than expected. Going down however... We probably spent 90% of the time there waiting in queues rather than enjoying the views. We had to wait more than an hour just to get down.

We were there with our tour, and he cleverly brought us there at lunchtime …. So it wasn’t crowded and we were able to have a great sight with amazing views ! It was one of our favourite spots in Rio !
