The pavilion was believed to be used for chanting Buddha’s teaching while the inscription at the pavilion reveals that the king used to listen to the chanting of pirith, which were Buddhist blessings.

In front of Pabalu Vehera to the north is the main street of the ancient city of Polonnaruwa.

Super toller Ausflug mit Has ith. Er ist auf meine Wünsche eingegangen und hat mich zum Abschluss noch in ein kleines aber total gutes lokales Restaurant gebracht. Er ist sicher gefahren und hat eine tolle Sightseeing Route ausgewählt. Ich kann in wärmstens weiterempfehlen, zudem arbeitet er als selbsständiger, da weiss man wen man unterstützt.

I was unsure about going to Polonnaruwa but I'm glad I did! Hasith provided excellent service and is a very safe driver compared to other ones I rode with in Sri Lanka. If you're into history, culture, nature, archaeology.... Polonnaruwa is vast and amazing. Saw several animals: deer, monitor lizards, monkeys, birds and peacocks on the road driving back to Kandy. Lunch spot was very beautiful in a natural setting viewing a lake. Long day but worth it! A trip highlight for me.
