This hike was beautiful and our guide was an expert and entertaining! The hike was definitely moderate to advanced and we would suggest hiking shoes/boots and possibly long pants. You will be using your hands and arms as well as your legs for some steep climbing. The crater at the top is worth the rugged terrain!

This hike was awesome. Now fair warning if you are not an experienced hiker this isn’t for you… but if you are this is a great trip! Views are great… tour guide is great!

Our group took the 7 day Harmony of the Seas cruise with RC. This was our favorite activity of the entire trip!!
We were picked up at the port and drove almost an hour to the trailhead, picking up our guide, Lashawn, along the way. It was raining off and on all day but we didn't notice since the canopy of the rainforest is so thick the rain doesn't reach the ground. It was hot, muggy and muddy so wear clothes you can get dirty and bring drinks and snacks. Lashawn also packed plenty of water for our group. You will need it. We were offered walking sticks before we hit the trail.
We are avid hikers and found this hike to be challenging. This is a climb that involves lots of root scampering: literally hands and feet pulling you up a mass of tree roots. We loved it but passed a number of hikers that had turned around or were struggling. Royal Caribbean's tour group started 45 minutes ahead of us but we passed them before we reached the top since they had to stop more often for people to catch their breath. We were really happy that our group of 4 could set our own pace. If you're patient or not in good hiking shape the cruise tour may be a good option. If you want to go in a smaller group and set your own pace we highly recommend booking with this company. Wear clothes that can are comfortable while wet, good hiking shoes that can get muddy, and one drawstring bag for phones and light snacks. The tour did offer us homemade baked goods on the drive back to the ship.
Lashawn did a fantastic job educating us about the local environment and his country. He was happy to let us set the pace and cheerful. It took us 5 hours round trip, plus the two hours driving. This gave us 1.5 hours at the port to look around the shops before we had to be on the ship. We were pretty tired and muddy so we didn't spend much time shopping. Be aware that you might not see the inside of the volcano. It was very cloudy the day we hiked but it would break open for a few seconds so you could see the bottom. Honestly, the hike was better than the view. We would do it again. We were sore the next day (especially our quads).
We liked St. Kitts more than St. Martin. It was cleaner and the people were friendlier. This is a bucket list experience that we would highly recommend if you are in the physical shape to do it.
