    The name Tikal may be derived from the words ti ak'al, in the Itzá Mayan language, which means Place of Voices. The name was apparently applied by early working archaeologists. However, Tikal is not the old name of the site, but rather the name that was adopted shortly after its rediscovery, in the 1848s. The graphic inscriptions in Mayan script, in the ruins, refer to the ancient city as Yax Mutal, whose meaning is Sacred Knot. It is possible that Tikal was so named to distinguish it from Dos Pilas, which came to use the same emblem glyph. The rulers of the city wanted to distinguish themselves as the first city bearing this name, the kingdom, as a whole, was called Mutal being the reading of the emblem glyph, its exact meaning is not clear, although some scientists think that it refers to the reign of the Ku'hul Ahaw, or highest ruler.

The place is amazing, during the hiking you cm have contact with nature, and you can enjoy the history as you can't imagine.

Increíble experiencia con Wilmer en Tikal y Yaxha, desde que llegamos a Flores; Don Wilmer nos recogió en el aeropuerto, nos llevo a desayunar y nos hizo el tour privado tanto en Tikal como Yaxha (Atardecer). Ambos tours fueron privados, super recomendados, es la mejor manera de aprender y llevar su propio ritmo; además de que siempre estuvo dispuesto a tomarnos fotos, contestar todas las preguntas mías (Fanático de la cultura Maya) y sus explicaciones fueron muy buenas y educativas. Sin duda lo recomendare a mis amigos y a cualquiera a ojos cerrados como decimos en Costa Rica, si pueden paguen el tour privado. No duden en contactar a Wilmer para sus excursiones a Flores, super recomendado!

Nos recibieron en el Aeropuerto Mundo Maya, para luego salir al tour de Tikal. Vehículo en excelente estado buen aire acondicionado, nuestro guía fue todo un experto. Ademas tuvimos la oportunidad de ver muchas aves durante la caminata. Al regreso nos dejaron en nuestro Hotel en Isla de Flores.
