Every year between July and early November, humpback whales migrate through the warm Polynesian waters. They come here to breed or give birth. This is a unique opportunity we have to admire them. During this excursion we sometimes also happen to see spinner dolphins, pilot whales and pelagic sharks. French Polynesia is one of the few destinations in the world where it is still possible to swim with cetaceans and have the opportunity to observe them underwater. Join us and have the experience of your life! On our return to the lagoon, we will also stop to swim with stingrays and black tip sharks. This activity takes place on a shallow sandbank of the lagoon where you can stand as the water is only waist-chest high. It is accessible to all ages without any particular physical shape needed. You can also enjoy a break on the boat with a drink and fresh fruit.

We booked this amazing trip through Viator while staying at Sofitel in Moorea. It is an absolute must do! They pick you up from your resort in a cool open air jeep and bring you (with beautiful island views along the way) to their hub. From there you get on a boat with about 8 people and go for a ride for a while until you can find whale activity. The guide then leads you in the water to find whales! We swam with the most amazing whale and were shocked at how close we were able to get. When we got back on the boat, we could see more whales in the distance. After that we were brought to a lagoon to literally swim or stand with sharks and stingrays (I didn’t even need snorkel they are at the surface). We then had a drink and some pineapple and started the journey back! I cannot recommend this enough if you are traveling during the season (we came in September).

I’ve been all over the world, done lots of group trips and spent a large portion of my life underwater in pursuit of unique wildlife encounters. This experience is top notch. Kelsey strikes the perfect balance of proximity and respect for the whales. She really is the best whale spotter and she makes the whole experience FUN! I made lifelong friends, belly laughed until I cried and ate some of the best damn food I’ve had in a long time. Run don’t walk and book this immediately.
