Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Kanyakumari, India There are two rocks projecting out of the Ocean, South East of the Kanyakumari temple. It was on one of these rocks that Swami Vivekananda sat in long and deep meditation. With the blessings of the virgin goddess, the simple monk was thus transformed into a powerful crusader. The rock is now called the `Vivekananda Rock'. On this rock stands the `Vivekananda Rock Memorial' built in 1970, in a blend of all the architectural styles of India. A statue of Swami Vivekananda has been installed in the memorial Mandapam. One can also see Sri Pada Parai, the footprints of the virgin goddess, on this rock. With the Indian Ocean right in the background, this statue is a peaceful and serene destination. 30 minutes
Gandhi Memorial, Kanyakumari, India Visit the Gandhi Memorial where the memory of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation, is enshrined. Here, his ashes were kept for public viewing before immersion. The architecture of the building allows the rays of the sun to fall on the spot where the ashes were kept. Every year on October 2, his birthday is celebrated here. 30 minutes
Vattakottai Fort, Kanyakumari, India This 18th century circular fort overlooking the sea is worth visiting. There are watch towers, rest rooms and weapon rooms. Well laid stairs lead up to an arch in the front wall, set with a tiny square peephole. Centuries ago when the area around the fort was clear, observers could see right up to Padmanabhapuram Palace. It is said that there was a 4ft wide tunnel from the fort to the palace, a distance of nearly 25 km. The fish motif, symbolizing the Pandya kings is engraved on many of the walls. The Dutch General DeLennoy and his navy attacked the fort when it was under Marthanda Varma and were defeated. They surrendered to Marthanda Varma and De Lennoy became one of Varma's most faithful Generals. The raised parade ground overlooks the Bay of Bengal on one side and the Arabian Sea on the other. On the Arabian Seaside, the water is calm, and the sand is streaked with the red and brown of copper and uranium. The Bay of Bengal appears rougher, with tiny coral clusters visible just under the water's surface. 60 minutes

Kanyakumari is the only place in India where one can witness the convergence of three seas - Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean.
The place is famous for:
Swami Vivekanand Memorial- It is the only place in India where our famous and beloved saint Swami Vivekanand attained enlightenment.
2. Thiruvalluvar Statue- The interesting fact is that the 133 feet Thiruvalluvar statue height symbolises 133 chapters of the Tamil literature Thirukkal, while the 38 feet pedestal height represents the 38 chapters of virtue in Thirukkal.
3. Kanyakumari Beach - A large number of tourists gather to watch the magnificent sight of Sunrise and Sunset at Kanyakumari Beach. The sun rises beyond the Vivekanand Rock Memorial, making this place an ideal location for photography. One can spend time sitting on the rocks and playing around with waves and multicolored sand. The interesting fact about the multicolored sand is that one can recognise the three seas on the basis of color of the sand.
Best time to visit is during Chaitra Purnima when the sunset and moonrise is at the same time.
