Wow, we truly had the greatest, most enriching trip to Morocco thanks to Morocco Upscale tours and Reda's team. We visited three cities and had three absolutely amazing truly local guides in each one of them.
All three guides were named Abdul; in Tangier Abdul provided us with lots of great local knowledge and history of the city and Morocco. He was very knowledgeable about his country and we really enjoyed learning with him. He also spoke incredible English & took us to a local restaurant with the best food we had on the trip!
In Chefchaouen, our guide Abdul was amazing and his family had lived in the Medina for over 600 years! He was so kind, took us all over the city, explained the history and showed us all the popular photo spots before more tourists arrived. He took great care of us and was kind enough to take me to a pharmacy and help translate, as I had a cold and needed some medication. We visited some kind, calm local vendors as well, which was a nice break from the larger medinas as we got to truly see the craftsman in action.
In Fez, our guide, also named Abdul, truly made this the trip of a lifetime. Not only did we visit all the sites of Fez and get an in-depth history from a local, but Abdul truly went out of his way to help us many times. Whatever we needed - an ATM, a snack, a restroom. He could find it instantly! We visited a small local tea shop and had fun seeing how the tea was made and smelling all the herbs. The owner treated us like locals and even spritzed us with the special Moroccan orange flower water. Abdul knew just where to take us; getting my husband an incredible local BBQ lunch in the marketplace, setting up a Hamman experience for us that we absolutely loved, and taking my husband to specific shops so he could buy a pipe and tobacco. We also had an incredible dinner at a restaurant he recommended. The medina is massive and complicated, but Abdul stayed with us the entire time so we never got lost or felt like we were in any bad situations. We got to see many local artisans, but never felt pressure to make a huge purchase, they were all very kind and we love the items we purchased. Abdul truly provided us with door-to-door service as he walked us to and from our Riad, as well as to and from the Hamman and dinner, to ensure we were safe & not lost. Overall, the best part was how truly local things felt since Abdul has lived in Fez his entire life. We learned so many different traditions, new phrases & Arabic words, and met so many amazing people in just one day with Abdul. Finally, Abdul even communicated with not only our previous driver but the police and other locals in order to pass back my husband's tablet and return it to us. He came up with the great idea to leave it at the police station and he picked it up for us while we ate dinner and brought it back. So kind, he didn't have to do that but he went out of his way and we appreciated it so much.
One of the most amazing things about Morocco Upscale Tours is how many different languages the guides speak. Between them all, we had covered seven languages and our guide in Fez spoke Six fluently! As a fellow language lover, Abdul went out of his way to allow me to chat with him in Spanish or my limited French. Morocco is such an amazing country with the kindest people. We cannot recommend this company more!
