Remote Ruaha is an unspoiled wilderness famed for its large number of elephants. In fact, aside from rhinos, all major safari animals are present in good numbers. A large pride of lions, sometimes counting more than 20 individuals, roam the park, and even buffalo, an unusual prey, isn't safe here. Ruaha's great diversity of birds is a function of its location, which is transitional to the acacia savannah of East Africa and the miombo woodland belt of southern Africa. The park has a checklist of 450 birds. The crested barbet – whose persistent trilling is a characteristic sound of the southern bush – occurs in Ruaha, alongside central Tanzanian endemics (restricted to Central Tanzania) such as the Yellow-collared lovebird and ashy starling. Migratory birds are present from November to April.

    DAY01 Iringa-ruaha national park • You will be picked from your Iringa hotel around 6 am, and drive to Ruaha National Park. • Find the park with its highlands forest, miombo woodlands, lowland Savannah with Acacia and mixed woodland; also find vast wetland and plains which are home to an enormous array of water birds. The park is one of the Tanzania birds’ paradise with more than 571species and some of them are known to be migrants from within and outside Africa. Ruaha is believed to have high concentration of elephants than any National Park in East Africa. It is also a place where, magnificent mammals like Kudu, Sable and Roan antelopes can easily be spotted in Miombo woodland. The park is also a habitat for endangered wild dogs. Other animals in the park include lions, leopards, cheetah, giraffes, zebras, elands, impala, bat eared foxes and Jackals. • The park offer excellent game viewing experience with buffalo, zebra, giraffe, bushbuck, waterbuck, both greater and lesser kudu, and lots of elephants roaming near the Ruaha great river. • Spot various predators like lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, hyena, and so much more. • Back to Iringa
