This is one of our most recommended activities in Zanzibar. You can swim and snorkel at three different spots: Dolphins, relaxing at the Sandbanks, and Snorkeling at the Mnemba Reef. Mnemba Island was ranked as the #1 Best Beach Destination in Africa by Tripsavvy. During this trip, we usually encounter pods of bottlenose dolphins, ranging from 10 to 20. They are usually grey in color, measure two to four meters in length, and have a curved mouth that gives the appearance that they are always smiling. While snorkeling, you can spot different species of fish, such as Angel Fish, Blue Spotted Rays, Black Snappers, Groupers, Red Tooth Triggers, Flounder, Octopuses, Leaf Fish, Scorpion Fish, Stone Fish, Frog Fish, and lots of Trevallies. Mnemba Island is connected with a Sandbank (Sandbar) that is only accessible at low tides. The beach around the Sandbank is so beautiful with crystal clear water and white sand.

Niet wat we verwachte. Uit een bootje springen en je zelf te pletter zwemmen om een glimp van een dolfijn te zien. Ook het snorkelen was niet spectaculair. Wellicht ook omdat we verwend zijn, dit eerder op andere locaties in de wereld anders hebben ervaren. Teveel bootjes op een kluitje, hierdoor ook niet ongevaarlijk. Half acht op gehaald, kwart voor elf waren we weer terug. Je bent even van het resort, dat was het dan ook.

Il y avait une cinquantaine de bateaux qui fonçaient sur les dauphins dans un vacarme de moteurs, aucun respect des animaux, c’ était affligeant ???? ! De plus des touristes se jettent à l’ eau au dernier moment pour aller nager avec eux et évidemment, ils étaient déjà loin ! Le plus dramatique, c’ est le risque de les blesser avec les hélices, et jamais nous aurions quitté le bateau, c’ est beaucoup trop dangereux, un jour il y aura un accident…Tout ce cirque ne m’ a apporté aucun plaisir. Après la partie snorkeling est correcte !

We had really a nice time on this tour! The staff was very friendly, and accommodating for the pick up time in front of our hotel. We made snorkelling at sunrise & after we swam with dolphins (not too much people because we were here very early)! It's worth going early because we were only 3/4 small boats, rather than going on a dolphin hunt with hundreds of tourists which also try to touch them and thus make them flee. A good point for this crew which was concerned about the environment by giving the recommendation not to touch anything (corals, fishes...) We got also fruit after snorkelling. It was a great time & I recommend Sultan tour ! Thanks guys
