The Real Tour of Communism will take you through all of the major aspects regarding the life under communist rule in Romania which lasted officially from 1948 to 1989. The Communism era was marked by the dictator Nicolae Ceausescu who ruled Romania for most of this period (1965-1989). We will discover the landmarks of the Communist era to understand how the city's architecture was influenced and changed for ever. But also the former locations of the Secret Police where Romanians were interrogated and tortured too. The tour ends in the Revolution Square where Nicolae Ceausescu had his last speech on Dec 21st 1989 few days before he was executed together with his wife.

I had an excellent time on this tour led by John. This was a very interesting and informative three hours. John is a friendly person and has a relaxed style of delivery. He also has an excellent command of his subject. He answered all of our questions very patiently and where relevant, would also give interesting anecdotes. One of the reasons John's tour has such impact is due to the fact he has experienced life during the communism era and can convey things that he and his family went through, from first hand experience. I am so pleased I managed to make this tour and highly recommend it!

John our guide was really fantastic ! He managed to explain not just the historical facts but how communism affected himself and his loved ones as well ; that made it more interesting! He even gave us samples of sweet goods during the era which I really appreciate! Furthermore , he took the extra mile by inserting pre and post communism plus everything in between ! It was like communism + old town tour Should one visit Bucharest I highly recommend taking this guided tour !

I Absolutely loved this tour! Our guide John was amazing ,knowledgeable, funny, and so relaxed. The way he told the story of communism and the Romanian Revolution kept me completely focused for the full three hours (which flew by!) and left me wanting to learn even more. His personal touch, real-life examples, and great sense of humor made the experience unforgettable. If you're even slightly interested in history or want to understand Romania better, this tour is 100% worth it. Don’t miss it!
