The Emigration Museum BallinStadt Hamburg focuses on emigration via Hamburg (1850 1934) and the development of migration over four epochs at a historic location. Always accompanied by human longings, fates and stories. The The reasons for migration are still timeless. Escape from war, hunger and persecution or just simply a thirst for adventure, curiosity and the dream of a new (better) life were motivation for emigration then and now and thus also immigration.

    Es gibt in Hamburg weit schönere Museen im zentralerer Lage. Für das Gebotene steht der Eintrittspreis von 13,90 Euro (Erwachsener) in keinem Verhältnis.

    Sehr gute Übersicht über das Thema Auswanderung und Migration mit Fokus auf Hamburg, aber vielen allgemeinen Informationen zu Push und Pull-Faktoren, verschiedenen Wellen der Migration, wie es sich anfühlt, sich auf eine lange und oft beschwerliche Reise zu machen ….und dann irgendwann in der Fremde anzukommen. Es ist alles sehr plastisch beschrieben und durch viele Utensilien dargestellt. Der Audio Guide ist etwas nervig, da die Frau einen österreichischen Akzent hat, was irgendwie nicht zu Hamburg passt. Es gibt auch ausreichend Toiletten in den drei Ausstellungsgebäuden und ein Restaurant mit Aussenbereich. Im integrierten Museums Shop haben wir ein Buch mit 365 Tipps zu Hamburg gefunden - sehr interessant!

    Went with an eight year old and we had a great time! Also the outside offers a very nice area for a pic nick among the threes.
