    We shall set forth from Tirana and make our way to Central South Albania, to the City of Many Windows, Berat. Since 2008, it has been inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage list, and continues to be a significant city even today, boasting a remarkable history of over two millennia. Despite the passage of time, life has remained persistent here, and the Castle or “Kalaja” is the oldest district of the city. Predominantly inhabited by the Christian Orthodox population, this part of the city features a remarkable assemblage of churches, some of which date as far back as the 14th century. The drive takes aroun 1 hour and a half from Tirana

  • Belsh, Belsh, Albania
    On the way from Tirana, we shall traverse past what has been bestowed the title of "the Tuscany of Albania", a realm of lush emerald hills, flourishing olive groves and many tranquil small lakes, creating an awe-inspiring vista. The city has a small lake and a nice touristy and picturesque area around it. We can have a short stop to take some pictures or just to enjoy a coffee break.

  • Berat Castle, Berat, Albania
    arriving in Berat our first stop is the Berati castle , a still inhabited castle with the traditional Ottoman architecture where we will have a walking tour all around. The majestic Citadel of Berat, commonly referred to as Berat Castle and its castle quarter, soars grandly above the town of Berat, Albania. Its majestic walls date back to the 13th century and are surrounded by a multitude of Byzantine churches as well as Ottoman mosques. We can try the traditional Gliko and Turkish coffee at a local guest house .

  • Mangalem, Berat, Albania
    Mangalem stands majestically in the hills below the castle, its typical architecture and white walls being a testament to its past. It is a scene of beauty, its counterpart, Gorica, visible in the many windows that line its walls. Structured mainly during the Ottoman period, it was still affected by the devastating earthquake which saw parts of the city destroyed and the style of architecture change from its heavy towers with small windows and stone to a lighter build with larger windows. We can also enjoy a traditional lunch in Berat.

Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by our guide guy Kevin . The guide and tour was extremely good, very flexible and for that he deserves a special thanks. We had the chance to visit some amazing sites. I recommend Local Friends Albania to everyone!

Berat was one of the cities in Albania that was in my list of places to visit and this trip checked all my points! It was fun, informative and we spent a great time with the guides, that helped us all day. We almost thought we were talking this some longtime friends. Would live to go again soon!!
