    This classic walking tour explores the contrast of the modern and traditional neighborhoods in Tokyo: Meiji Jingu, Senso-ji and Harajuku. We will start the tour with a visit to the Meiji Jingu, the city’s most prominent Shinto site. Meiji Jingu was dedicated to the Emperor Meiji and his consort. Learn about Japan’s ancient religion as you visit the sanctuary, treasure house and other structures built of Japanese cypress with copper plates for the roofs.

    The next stop is to stroll through the neighborhood of Harajuku, the epicenter of Tokyo’s youth culture. Harajuku is one of Tokyo’s most eclectic shopping districts and home to a distinctive style of urban fashion. If you've ever wondered where those strange outfits featured in music clips and magazines come from, well wonder no more -- it's right here in the subculture world of Harajuku.
  • Senso-ji Temple, Asakusa, Tokyo Prefecture, Japan
    Continue on visiting Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple - Senso-ji. The five-story pagoda, Thunder Gate and distinctive temple architecture are the highlight of this temple. You’ll also have the opportunity to sample lots of Japanese snacks and foods and shop for souvenirs (own expense) on the way up to the temple.

    Your tour concludes at Sensoji Temple in Asakusa.

    Highly recommended we thoroughly enjoyed this tour. The tour enabled us to quickly see very interesting and amazing places in our very short time in Tokyo, Our tour guide was Masaki, great fun to be with and gave us fun questions to occupy our time travelling from one place to another. His knowledge of the places we saw was excellent - information we otherwise would not have known. It was just the two of us, so we had a very personalised time with him, which felt that we were with a good friend rather than a guide. Viator was super efficient and quick on correspondence and Masaki a credit to them. Thank you Masaki!

    We just had a great tour with Masaki! He was super knowledgeable about the city, Shrines, Temples, Tokyo and the culture and its people. But we chatted about so much more and he gave us a genuine peek into the Japanese family, traditions, superstitions, food, trends, sports, education system, etc. He had train passes, maps and visual aides, and treats to sample. He was the highlight of our time in Tokyo! I highly recommend.

    Our tour guide Makdai-san was excellent, not only showing us the sites but providing a great perspective on Japanese life, culture and history - why things are the way they are and how they’re changing. He even encouraged us to be ‘locals’ and go into a photo booth in Harujuku. He kept everyone in our family interested and entertained. It was great tour to start our visit to Tokyo and would highly recommend it.
