Arad was once in the middle of the Austrian – Hungarian Monarchy. Germans, Hungarians, Romanians, Serbs, and Jews have lived here peacefully over the centuries and built together a culture that is hard to imagine anywhere else! We will talk about the golden age dating back to the beginning of the 20th century when most of the buildings we admire today were built. We will explore the multiculturality of the city through the stories about those who inhabited it and we will learn about heroes undressed by their uniforms in the Romanian – Hungarian Reconciliation Park! History, architecture and the stories of those who walked this way and lived over the centuries in a fascinating environment!

We have planned a tour of the cathedral.!!! After we had to drive a little longer through this city due to traffic, we then taught things back to Hungary. So we've seen a lot of cities in our lives, But ARAD shoots the bird. We haven't seen anything so run-down, dirty, crumbling. The houses are neglected ,the tangled tangles of cables along the streets. It was an experience we will not repeat. On the motorway towards Hungary, DRECK ,WASTE partly 20 to 30 cm high. Ok I think caused by truck drivers because of long time in traffic jams ,but also that should and could be cleaned.

Our excellent guide, Roberta Rosa, researched the family information we gave her several days beforehand, and personalized the tour for us. She found the church where our relatives were baptized, and we visited the church, and nearby cemetery. Outside the church, there was a WWI monument listing the names of family members. This was such a special, and moving experience for us, and far more than we expected! We also toured the stunning Cultural Palace, the breathtaking Orthodox Cathedral, and the vibrant local market in Arad.
