Although its finest forms are made in the vineyards of Veneto, this wine originates from the small town of Prosecco in Friuli Venezia Giulia, near the city of Trieste and the Slovenian border. The Glera grape is grown in the village of Prosecco, now a suburb of Trieste, which is where Prosecco was originally conceived. Join us on our tour and you will delve into the well-kept secret that is the beauty of the region. On the tour you will have the chance to discover this under-explored region, hear all about the history of Prosecco and appreciate the most historically significant vineyards, before visiting one exceptional winery to try some of the most renowned sparkling wine in all of Italy.

    Our tour will carry on to the medieval village of Štanjel, which was one of the first communities in the Karst Region, loved for its ancient village centre and its awe-inspiring sweeping vistas. Štanjel sits atop a scenic hill, where you can easily see some its most famous structures. The castle complex, defence walls, Church of St. Daniel, surrounding village and the Ferrari Garden are the most notable architectural points of the old settlement. The village has changed in appearance over the centuries, but it has always maintained the spirit of the Karst. The town gets its name from the patron Saint Daniel, offering an interesting cultural heritage. During both world wars, Štanjel was uniquely influenced by architect and mayor at the time, Maks Fabiani. He preserved the essence of the village while using his creative finesse to rejuvenate the newly-renovated public structures. Fabiani’s most notable work in Štanjel involved the restoration of Ferrari Villa and the design of the extraordinary Ferrari Garden park, lauded as the most significant park landscaping in Slovenia from the inter-war period.

This trip is a nightmare and I am currently trying to get my money back because it was a scam but unfortunately Viator has a terrible refund system where you have to go through the company that provided the tour. It says you will drink some of the best wine Italy has to offer and explore the prosecco region. We went to a community bar filled with old drunks at 10am and drank a glass of awful "prosecco" out of a soda gun, then wandered around empty villages in Slovenia for 4 hours before going to an awful winery in Slovenia where some cured pork and cheese was served. We asked to stop for food multiple times and were denied by our tour operator. It was an awful trip and our tour guide spent most of the time trying to convince us to buy property in these empty villages in slovenia. The whole trip was a scam to get people to spend money in Slovenia. We never went to an Italian winery or vineyard.

Going to the Farrari gardens and viewing the Karst region, stopping for a glass of Prosecco in the Prosecco region and a light lunch at the wine and prosciutto agri -restaurant, the guide collected us from our hotel on time, he was very informative
