Trip to the Austerlitz Battlefield near BRNO in the Czech Republic

Austerlitz has been on my wish list for many years so I was delighted to be able to visit this year. My friend and I are both retired army generals with a deep interest in military history. First thing is that Brno is a great location to stay in with its stunning old town and proximity to the battlefield. Plenty of interest for our wives whilst I was studying. However nothing would have been possible without the simply wonderful Helena. She collected us early morning from our accommodation and dropped us back at the end of a very full day. I had purposefully requested a bespoke visit which maximised time on the ground and minimised tourist attractions like museums. I also wanted to move from the French R flank to the L. Helena was able to meet every request with a smile. Incidentally the ground is simply superb and the key features are unchanged since 1805. If you are going to maximise your visit, a local guide is essential but nobody else except Helena was able to match our requirements. She is a walking encyclopaedia of local knowledge not to mention the small country roads. She has made an ardent study of the 1805 campaign and has many helpful pieces of literature and maps in a large folder. If this all sounds dreadfully serious, Helena ensured that we had sufficient samples of local beer and excellent food to lighten key moments. We were also fortunate to have the additional company of her charming dog Marko. In summary this was quite a brilliant day with a tour guide who is simply the best. Thank you Helena from John and myself.

Eine tolle Führung. Sie erhalten eine kompetente und auf Ihr Wissen angepasste Führung über das gesamte Schlachtfeld und zu allen relevanten Orten im Umfeld von Austerlitz. Ich gehöre zu den Menschen, die vorher nicht viel über die Schlacht wussten und einfach nur neugierig waren. Die Führung wird ganz individuell auf Ihren Wissensstand angepasst, egal ob Sie schon alles darüber gelesen haben oder wie ich eher Anfänger sind. Sehr individuell, freundlich und in hervorragendem Englisch. Deutsch wird nicht gesprochen. Toll war auch, dass die gesamte Tour in einem PKw des Guides individuell geplant und angepasst werden konnte. Hervorragende Professionalität. Während der Tour gibt es die Möglichkeit, eine Pause zu machen und essen zu gehen.
