Join a 3-7 hour safari through the beautiful landscape in Dovrefjell Nasjonalpark! With our highly educated and experienced guides, you have a 99% chance to see these magnificent animals. The hike is norwegian moderate, and the duration depends on where the muskox are that day. Our enthusiastic guides will give you insight into the area's flora and fauna. There is a chance to see birds of prey, reindeer and beautiful lichens during the hike. The safety distance is 200m. Please do not bring dogs. You will use your own car from Oppdal to Dovrefjell, or you can have a ride with the guide IF you ask in advance and we have enough seats. Bring clothes for the weather, waterproof shoes with ancle support and food for the day.

Highly recommended going in Dovrefjell with Oppdal Safari, it is a safe way to enjoy such a special ecosystem while discovering all details about it.

I did a private musk ox tour end of November with Oppdal Safari. It was tough and physically demanding, as the weather conditions were pretty harsh (it was icy-cold, windy, snowing), which made me (a sissy, weak, old and humourless German ;-)) suffer a lot. But it was absolutely stunning as we saw the musk oxes in this harsh weather, the fur full of snow and ice. They grouped up, wrangled about the "where to go", scraped the snow to find food and laid down to escape the wind. When laying down they immediately fused with the landscape and looked like rocks in the windy snowy winter scenery. Erlend, the tour guide, was absolutely professional in the best way. He has expertise in Norwegian wild life (and for sure his knowledge about biology and behavior of musk ox is outstanding), in ecology (and I know what I am talking about, as am ecologist working in nature conservation) as well as botony and geology. His priority is nature conservation and animal protection. Exactly that is the reason why he can give you a unique experience. He is enthusiastic about wildlife and uses his knowledge to bring you in the right moment to the right spot, while respecting the needs of the animals observed. Although the weather conditions where difficult, I felt safe every minute. Erlend had a good feeling for the moment when I needed support or encouragement, and also for the moments I needed to "deal with myself" and find my own way (and believe me: physically it was "pushing the edges" and -I cursed myself multiple times, as I should have trained my muscles prior to the trip). All in all: I can recommand the private tour from Oppdal Safari in the most outspoken way.

It was an amazing adventure, our guide was very knowledgeable and knew where the musk oxen will be. He answered all our questions about the area. I definitely highly recommend Oppdal Safari
