Birdwatching in Coba from Tulum

We enjoyed a fantastic birding experience with Miguel. Miguel made sure we were able to see many of our target species and much much more. He was quick to identify birds visually and audibly. He is passionate and knowledgeable about birds, all of nature and his community. He made accommodation for our mobility limits so we were still able to enjoy the experience. Booking the tour online was easy even from the resort and Miguel was quick to respond to confirm a tour. This is our 2nd tour with Miguel and he still amazes us!

Guide was highly knowledgeable demonstrating a genuine appreciation for nature & wildlife whilst also putting in the effort to truly explain the Maya history and culture - both historic & present. Such an incredible experience to walk around three locations with knowledgeable and friendly guide Miguel. First around a section of a lake to see wetland birds, then through the village where we saw completely different bird species but also the opportunity to see more of a Mexican town - schools, shops, houses etc which in itself was very interesting. Finally we walked through the jungle and around the impressive Coba historical ruins. Just some of the birds we saw included the exotic looking Motmot, a Pygmy Owl and a Snail Kite - but we spotted well over 50 species and captured some great photographs as well. We used an app to log down the route we took and record the birds we saw - which is shared for conservation purposes as well. In addition to birds we observed a wide range of other species as well including insects, snakes, turtles and mammals (Central American Agouti). Miguel was outstanding at identifying birds by their visual appearance and by their sounds whilst also being exceptionally good at being able to point them out to me in the trees. This is an impressive trip for enthusiastic bird watchers - but it is also equally impressive for people like me - who are less knowledgeable about birds but who just enjoy being in and observing nature in general. This tour can either be done in a small group or as a private trip. My trip was private meaning that I was probably more attentive to the nature and able to spot more species whilst also having the opportunity to ask Miguel a lot more questions. At end of trip there is a good Mexican lunch and an opportunity to add on a trip to a cenote for a refreshing swim. Highly recommend this trip for bird watching enthusiasts and also for anyone who just appreciates observing nature in general.

I booked a private half day tour at Coba last week with Miguel and couldn't be more pleased with that decision. We saw 65 species, many of which were lifers for me. Miguel is very personable and knowledgable and I will definitely be booking with him again whenever I make it back to Tulum.
