This was a vacation of a lifetime. Edison at Bamboo Encounters was very easy to work with and helped structure a trip to our specifications. He was always timely in his email responses and he took care of all the planning and permits we needed. Every lodge we visited was top notch. Chance our guide was the real star. He drove us over every inch of Uganda (and some Rwanda) over some crazy roads. He could answer every question we had even silly ones and his knowledge of birds is second to none. He knew every bird by sight and sound. The trip itself was spectacular. We saw gorillas and the Silverback literally walked right past us within inches of touching us. We went on the Kazunga Channel where we saw elephants playing in the water and chasing birds which was a sight to see. We also found the tree climbing lions in Queen Victoria and a host of other animals. We visited Bigodi and had a great experience walking in the community and learning how people live and work. Finally we visited the chimps and to our luck they were all in the ground playing and hanging out. All in all a great experience. A few tips: if coming overseas especially US bring clean money. By that I mean not torn or with ink on it and later than 2007. The locals get a bad exchange rate on money with flaws and may refuse the bill. Get in shape for the hikes in the forests. While they are not hard, you will be walking for hours in forest terrain… get off that couch and get on the treadmill. Try to enjoy the journey as you travel between spots. There’s a lot to see just looking out the window like 5 people on a motorcycle or just people going about their day that you won’t encounter at home.
