Mongolian shamanism is an all-encompassing system of belief that includes medicine, religion, a cult of nature, and a cult of ancestor worship. In 13th century, the leading shaman declared Genghis Khan the representative of Mongke Koko Tengri (the "Eternal Blue Sky"), the supreme god of the Mongols. With this declaration of divine status, it was accepted that his destiny was to rule the world. Religious tolerance was practiced in the Mongol Empire; however, to defy the Great Khan was equivalent of defying the will of God. Central to the system were the activities of male and female intercessors between the human world and the spirit world, Shamans (böö) and Shamanesses (udgan). Yet, they were not the only ones who could communicate with the spirit world. Nobles and clan leaders also performed spiritual functions and so did commoners. The hierarchy of Mongolian clan-based society was reflected in the manner of worship.

    We'll visit the shaman's shrine outer part of the city. It's only 20-25 minute driving place, it's still in city though.

  • Travel time and lunch is already included in the total duration of the tour.
You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.
  • For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
  • This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.

Outstanding experience. I went mainly for the photo ops, but when the shaman started telling me things about my life that he couldn't possibly know, I started paying attention. Fascinating afternoon. And my guide, Bachi Nyanga, was first rate — smart, knowledgeable, and brimming with stories about Mongolia and the history of shamanism. Even bought his book "Spiritual Thinking: An introduction to spirituality and shamanism" on Amazon the next day.

This is one of the reason why I love to travel. Discovering and immersing myself to new experiences is something I look for all the time and meeting a Shaman and Bachi, our guide, telling us stories about shamanism is something very unique and would love to experience again. Absolutely one of the best thing I've ever done while traveling.

An experience of a lifetime! If you are an enthusiast who loves to explore more about new places and culture, then this is the best tour for you. The shaman tour will help you witness the life of the people, their customary rituals and lot more. It was easier for us throughout the tour as the guide was always suggestive and helpful. Travel Mongolia is a great company especially if you are looking to explore places in the country.
