We had a wonderful experience! Michelle, our guide, was a wealth of information, and I felt I had learned so much about the Native Alaskan Tribes, Permafrost, the Alaskan Pipeline, the Dawson Highway and why it was built, the wildlife and the topography and weather of the artic circle. We even stopped to actually appreciate what permafrost actually was and to understand the concept. The ride was bumpy but that was to be expected. We crossed over the Yukon river and ate lunch and dinner at the stop and lodge that was there. Make sure to bring snacks or pack the lunch and dinner. Some of the Fairbanks hotels will actually pack them for you if you order in advance. Michelle was wonderful and affable! She offered us candy, veggie snacks and cake at the artic circle. She took pictures for us so we could have complete family photos. She had Deet for us to apply in order to not be inundated by rather gargantuous mosquitos! The other individuals on the tour were pleasant as well and made it enjoyable! Loved to see how Michelle knew all the locals on the Dawson highway and how courteous they were to each other! Gave a flavor of the life lived north of civilization as most of us know it! Didn't see a ton of wildlife but overall felt I had seen something many others had not and it was the true wilderness left in this world! Definitely worth it and would recommend it to anyone who appreciates understanding history and nature!
