What was supposed to be the highlight of our Venice visit was the most disappointing! I guess the most memorable experience was when the guide was the first one off the gondola and left! No goodbye, no thank you - obviously no tip! The second most memorable experience was when she made no attempt to find us upon arrival as she stood eating a candy bar. Thirdly, our impression was that we were going on a PRIVATE tour and the gondolier would be giving any tour needed, not a total stranger with absolutely no personality who invaded our privacy and talked about various people who died in a house and how Venice was built when she wasn’t speaking Italian with the gondolier who we had no interaction with at all. Don’t waste your money on this tour - opt for a $90 30-minute experience and call it a day. Ours was a colossal waste of money!

Wir haben als Paar speziell diese Gondelfahrt gebucht und hatten komplett andere Erwartungen. Wir buchten für uns eine 60-minütige Fahrt, eine einzelne Gondel mit einer deutschsprachigen Erklärung. Wir dachten, dass der Gondoliere uns etwas während der Fahrt erzählt. Tatsächlich sagte der Gondoliere kein Wort und es stieg eine sogenannte deutschsprachige Reiseleiterin zu. Wir waren also auch nicht mehr allein in der Gondel. Das bisschen, was sie über Venedig zu erzählen hatte, hatten wir bereits im Umschlagtext unseres Reiseführers gelesen. Auch hat sie unsere Fragen nicht immer wirklich konkret verstanden bzw. beantworten können. Dann endete die Fahrt bereits nach knapp 45 Minuten. Angesprochen auf die um ein viertel verkürzte Zeit sagte man uns, dass es noch weitere Termin gäbe. Im Nachgang habe ich mich dann an den Reiseveranstalter Kontakt gewandt. Die Antwort war sehr unbefriedigend. Angeblich hätte die Reiseleiterin nicht gemerkt, dass die Fahrt kürzer war als gebucht. Zusätzlich hat man uns an einen komplett fremden Kontakt (ohne genaue Kontaktdaten) verwiesen, um die Angelegenheit weiter zu besprechen. Eine anteilige Erstattung des hohen Preises wurde abgelehnt. Unser Fazit: Beim nächsten Venedig Besuch direkt vor Ort zu eine der nicht direkt an den Hauptattraktionen gelegenen Gondelstationen gehen und eine Einzelgondel für eine Stunde nach Absprache buchen. Kostet weniger als die Hälfte von unserem Erlebnis und ist mit Sicherheit ein schöneres Erlebnis als Paar.

If you want a romantic trip as a couple, this is not the way. If you want a gondola ride with a knowledgeable guide to teach you about the history of the city and gondola rides. This is the way.
