Tahbilk has a significant place in the history of Australian winemaking. Its old vines pre-date the phyloxera epidemic, which killed almost all Australian grape vines. The wine made from these "old growth vines" is treasured. Tahbilk also has extensive plantings of Marsanne, a rare French grape variety. Marsanne is one of the few white wines that improve with age. The Purbrick family, now one of the First Families of Wine, cointinue to nurture this historic vineyard, which dates from 1860. It's well worth a visit.
