A guided walk of Tae Rak (Lake Condah) gives visitors an overview of the ancient and unique World Heritage Listed Budj Bin Cultural Landscape. Your guide will give you an overview of the Gunditjmara creation story and point out the extensive marine and bird-life of the lake. See ancient aquaculture system of lava flows and life-filled waterways and kooyang (eel) traps designed by the Gunditjmara, who have thrived here for more than 39,000 years, sustained by the living knowledge of their ancestors.

    Your Gunditjmara guide will meet you at the Tae Rak Aquaculture Centre for an overview of the centre, the kooyang (eel) holding tank, the processing facility and the cafe & retail space. Your guide will give you an overview of the Gunditjmara creation story and point out the extensive marine and bird-life of the lake. Continue along the western edge of lake to the weir, for a look at the ancient landscape and the extensive range of stone aquaculture sites and fish traps. Learn about: * Culturally significant flora & fauna, and the Tae Rak landscape * The Tae Rak Aquaculture Centre and the Gunditjmara people * Introduction to traditional kooyang (eel) harvesting & processing * Stone country and kooyang traps on the eastern side of the lake & the network of aquaculture systems designed to trap and harvest kooyang for food and trade.

Incredible tour. Such generous sharing of the incredible history of Budj Bim. Couldn’t recommend more highly. I just wish we’d had time for the longer tour. We’ll be back again.

I was filled with joy to witness and experience this wonderful tour. I felt so privileged to have a guide with local indigenous ancestry and connection. Out guide was very well spoken,personable, funny, knowledgeable and entertaining. I would absolutely recommend this tour and am activity raving about my experience. I loved the cultural center, and restaurant, the food was AMAZING, the facilities were wonderful. I really felt like it was all world class. I am so glad I I suggested that me and my client visit this site, I remember hearing about the work heritage listing but I had no idea that all of this had been developed. Well done to everyone involved, and thankyou so much, I am so happy with my visit!

This was a great experience. Very knowledgeable and fun guide, Reuben. Learnt so much and got to understand more about indigenous land use.
