Cockburn's large aging warehouse is the most extensive in the entire historic center of Vila Nova de Gaia, housing 6,518 Port Hulls that age under its huge roof, being one of the only ones to have its own crew of coopers.
Cockburn's Ports are carefully aged in oak casks and ferries and are accompanied by a team of tasters and oenologists until they reach their ideal maturity.
The impressive scale of Cockburn's warehouse allows you to house a large amount of Aging Special Reserve, to develop its unique style and perfect balance, acquired by more time of aging in wood than any other Reserve Port.

We had a fantastic and informative 90 minute tour and tasting at Cockburn's. The guide was friendly, fun and very knowledgeable, the tasting was excellent (3 varieties of port paired with chocolates and cheese), and the ambience of the cellars is perfect. A great afternoon - highly recommended.

Pleasant tour offering a good introduction to port types and the family history of the port industry. The tour includes a look at the Cockburn's cooperage, somewhat unique in Porto. Tastings reinforced the introduction to port types and all were delicious. Nice things here included no pre-payment (reservations are a must!), options for tapas alongside the tasting, and plenty of space to enjoy the tasting without any rush to leave. They do offer tastings only, which is an option if you already think you know enough about port wine types and manufacturing. Location is somewhat separated from other suppliers located closer to the river in Nova de Gaia, but not so far that it is not worth the walk (and short climb up the hill).

The experience was fascinating from beginning to end. The history, the families, the British Portuguese partnerships, the cellar, the aromas….all brought to life by our wonderful guide, Igor.
