This is definitely the way to see the flag-lowering ceremony at the India-Pakistan border. You’re picked up at your hotel and the drive takes about half an hour, I would guess, but, along the way and before you leave town, you stop at the Khalsa College, which your driver explains the very interesting history of the place. Then, on the way, you’re told about various interesting facts from a well-informed driver. Just before the Wagah border, the driver stops at Attari train station for a short explanation of the significance of the place, the (former) last stop before entering Pakistan. When you get to the border, the driver/guide leads you all the way until it’s “foreigners only” and you sit in the VIP section for the show. Afterwords, your driver meets you at the assigned spot and you’re whisked back to Amritsar where you are dropped off at your hotel or wherever you want.
Now, a special shout out to my driver, Narinder, who was such a good driver and guide that I organised to do the Golden Temple tour in the Amritsar City Tour the company runs. For that, you’ll have to check that review out, but, to put it succinctly, that was just as informative and enjoyable!
