    After a short break at the Walvis Bay Lagoon to see masses of flamingos, the drive initially takes us to the Kuiseb river delta, a dry riverbed where the odd springbok may still be seen. As this area forms part of our Kuiseb Delta Concession, we are the only activity operator allowed to access this area. If weather and tides allow, we will drive right to the Sandwich Harbour Lagoon along the beach, one of Southern Africa’s richest and unique wetlands and one of five RAMSAR sites (Ramsar site no. 743) in Namibia.

  • Walvis Bay Waterfront, Atlantic Street, Walvis Bay, Namibia
    Sandwich Harbour boasts two distinct wetlands and associated mudflats. One is aquifer-fed and supports typical emergent vegetation, but is slowly disappearing due to natural causes. The second, under tidal influence, consists of mudflats and raised shingle bars. Wedged between the sea and the Namib Dunes, it is one of Namibia's most important coastal wetlands, supporting eight endangered species among the large numbers of wading birds. Several archaeological sites dating back 1,000 years exist within the site. Human activities have included fishing, guano collection, and hunting. If our vehicles cannot drive all along the beach to get to Sandwich Harbour because of high tide, you will get a chance to see the lagoon area from one of our many beautiful lookout spots and will have the time to walk and explore. We have lots of time to stop along the way for photography. • Lunch: Selection of our famous fresh Namibian oysters and snacks with sparkling wine, beers and cool drinks.

What a blast! Definitely a must do when in Walvis Bay. The scenery is spectacular and the 4x4 drive over the giant dunes is exhilarating. Our guide Hennie was excellent (as was the other guide - there were two 4x4 on the trip). After the rides over these amazing sand dunes, we were treated to a large buffet of delicious finger food and sparkling wine. We are one a 180 day cruise around the world, and this tour ranks up to the top of all of our experiences so far. Definitely do this tour when you are in Walvis Bay.

Brilliant trip of nearly 5 hours. Superb driver Hennie, spectacular scenery and a delicious lunch with sparkling wine. There were four of us in a spacious 4x4, we drove out past the salt plant and learned all about the process of getting salt from the ocean. Then the dunes - WoW!! The dunes were huge and nearly vertical ???? but Hennie took them with ease, a real white knuckle drive but very safe. We stopped to see the thousands of flamingos in the lagoon as well as stops in the dunes to look at tracks and find small animals. Lunch was fresh oysters and an array of beautiful food and desserts with chilled sparkling SB. Back along the beach. Such a great day- most highly recommended.
