Krakow is a beautiful city, the food and wine are cheap. Plenty to see, would recommend you pre-book everything as the Poles are very organised with their tourism. It’s very clean and the majority can speak English like a first language. There is a huge amount of graffiti everywhere but don’t let it detract you from taking lots of photos.
We did the old town, the Castle (5*) and a river cruise (5*)on the first day. Ate at No7, which was very nice (5*).No pre- booking, though we were lucky at the castle with our timing! Then collapsed into a heap at our hotel Alexander, (3*) which was comfortable and close to the old town. ( English breakfast was not up to much but everything else was good). Second day we had booked a trip to Auschwitz. (5*) The tour was very well done, and hard on the feet! Did Sioux (4*)for a meal that night, which had a lot of choice, and we hadn’t booked, which wasn’t a problem.
Last day we got a golf cart to the Jewish quarter (4*)and the Ghetto, dropped us off at Schindlers factory but we couldn’t get a slot - hence pre- book! The driver was very knowledgable and fun, but that used up the rest of our cash. So we walked back and tried street food (4*) in the main square,(took cards for payment ) and did a bit of shopping. Discovered the “Wolf pit inn” based around “The Witcher “ series but there was a queue to get in so we didn’t wait. Found a nice wine bar and had gelato down the street.(5*)
Pedestrians tend to have right of way, as our taxi driver explained, it’s because the driver gets fined heavily, and points put on their licence. So the roads seem a bit hazardous, with trams and cyclists, and I wouldn’t like to drive there myself!
I would’ve loved to have done the Salt mines, but we hadn’t booked, and I’m glad we didn’t do it with the Auschwitz tour as it would’ve been a very long and tiring journey.
Hopefully next time!
