The experience began with a cyclo ride starting right at my hotel, which was incredibly convenient. Riding through the lively streets at a calm pace was a unique way to take in the city. We passed by cultural landmarks as motorcycles and city traffic zipped around us, making the ride feel exciting yet safe and tranquil.
Next, we enjoyed the water puppet show, which was truly a cultural highlight. The musicians were excellent, providing a live soundtrack that elevated the experience. Despite the language barrier, the puppets conveyed universal stories that were both entertaining and educational. We learned about fishing, saw playful dragons, pesky cats, beautiful birds, and even a thrilling boat race. The performance was engaging and beautifully set to traditional live music performed exceptionally well.
The evening ended with a dinner cruise along the Saigon River. While the food was mediocre at best—not hot and with drinks costing extra—the views and overall experience of being on the river more than made up for it. Watching the illuminated skyline from the boat was peaceful and memorable, making it a wonderful way to wind down the evening.
Overall, the combination of history, culture, and scenic relaxation made for a well-rounded and enjoyable experience. Though there was some room for improvement, I’d still highly recommend it for anyone visiting Ho Chi Minh City!
