Located at the tip of the Hook Peninsula in County Wexford in Ireland's Ancient East, the Hook Lighthouse is the oldest operational lighthouse in the world, and has marked the entrance to Waterford Harbour for over 800 years. Enjoy a 45-minute guided tour of this purpose-built, fully operational lighthouse. The visitor center features a gift shop, an art workshop, exhibits and a café. The Hook Lighthouse truly is one of a kind. This shared guided tour is available for groups of no more than 5.

    Your admission ticket allows for a guided tour of the lighthouse starting at your chosen late-morning time. Your guide will walk you through 800 years of the history of light-keeping at Hook Lighthouse, giving you insight to how its keepers lived throughout the ages. You will meet St Dubhan and William Marshall (the greatest Knight) on your journey, while your guide regales stories from the lighthouse's past. The tour will culminate in spectacular views from the Balcony of the Lighthouse. In clear weather you can see for miles, and in a storm the spray often reaches the top of the lighthouse!

  • Visitors are advised to wear comfortable shoes for climbing the 115 steps inside the tower to the viewing balcony

The lighthouse came highly recommended by family in Ireland and it really was amazing. John, our Tour Guide was not only very passionate about the lighthouse but I loved how he tailored his tour to ensure the kids were engaged and learning. We all had a great time and the cafe was brilliant. We had scones when we arrived and couldn’t resist getting some fish n chips to eat on the way home. Well done!

Hook Head Lighthouse is an absolute gem—I couldn’t recommend it more! From start to finish, the experience was incredible, and a huge part of that was down to our amazing tour guide, Lisa. She went above and beyond to make the visit unforgettable. Her knowledge was astounding, but what really stood out was her passion. You could tell she genuinely loves sharing the history of the lighthouse, and it made everything she said so engaging. The way she wove in stories about the lighthouse’s role in the local community brought the place to life. I had no idea how much there was to learn about the history of the lighthouse—it’s fascinating, and Lisa explained it all in such an interesting and clear way. She made sure everyone in the group felt involved, answering questions and making the whole tour feel personal. Honestly, if you’re lucky enough to have Lisa as your guide, you’re in for a treat! The lighthouse itself is stunning, and the views from outside are just breathtaking. It’s the perfect spot for taking in the beauty of the area, and it’s so peaceful too. Plus, it’s extremely good value for what you get—a guided tour that’s this detailed and entertaining for the price is an absolute bargain. If you’re considering visiting, don’t hesitate—it’s such a special place, and I’m already planning to come back with friends and family. Hook Head is a must-see, and Lisa’s tour made it one of the best days out I’ve had in ages!
