    You will be welcomed to the magnificent Hampton Court Palace by one of the expert Palace Hosts who will introduce you to Henry VIII’s riverside residence and set you on your way to explore the spectacular State Apartments, Tudor Kitchens and glorious gardens. A royal palace in the borough of Richmond upon Thames, Hampton Court Palace was built in 1515 by Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, favourite advisor to King Henry VIII. Once the most powerful man in the English court, second only to the King, Cardinal Wolsey fell out of favour with Henry after he failed to negotiate an annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon so he could marry his latest obsession, Anne Boleyn. After Wolsey’s death in 1530, Henry VIII took charge of Hampton Court, turning it in to a hotel, a theatre and a huge private playground, using it to demonstrate his enormous wealth.

  • St. George’s Chapel is usually closed to visitors on Sundays as services are held throughout the day. Worshippers are welcome to attend the services.
  • Windsor Castle is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. A walking tour of the town will take place instead.
  • Due to on-going roadworks between Gloucester Road and Victoria, your tour will end within a 3 minute walk to Gloucester Road Underground Station. This station is in Zone 1 and is three stops Eastbound on the Circle Line or the District Line to Victoria. The Piccadilly Line also runs through Gloucester Road and is 5 stops to Piccadilly Circus.

Morton was our guide and he was very good and personable. I had been to both Hampton Court and Windsor Castle before, but husband was seeing them for the first time. Unfortunately, Royal Chapel at Hampton Court was closed and I missed the actors playing Henry and his wives who were there last time. Windsor was fine although completely mobbed. Our bus was also packed and I didn't appreciate the "gentleman" in front of me who reclined his seat for the entire trip. Bus seats are too small.

Very friendly and knowledgeable guide. Both Hampton Court Place and Windsor Castle were beautiful and we learned a lot of history.

Tish is an amazing tour guide. She is so knowledgeable and such a great speaker, we learned so much about the places we passed on the way and about our destinations. She is super organised and did her utmost to ensure everybody's needs were met. We were very well looked after. The driver was also friendly, polite and welcoming and needs a medal for navigating the London traffic. Golden Tours is lucky to have you both and I hope that is reflected in your pay packets.
