If you are a history nerd or just curious about Croatian history, then this is the tour for you. This is NOT a general tour of Zagreb, although you walk around several interesting points in the city. You do also visit the underground tunnels that were built in WWII and now serve as a convenient short cuts as well as a place for city displays and celebrations! This tour will definitely give you a good sense for the modern (1900 to present) history of Croatia and fill in the blank spaces in your understanding of the ‘balkans’. Our guide, Darko, was very knowledgeable and had an entertaining style. He took us through 125 years of history in a way that puts your boring high school history teacher to shame. While all history is, by definition, controversial - Darko handled this comfortably and acknowledged his own biases as well as those of his fellow countrymen and even the biases of the tour participants. If you just want to wander around and ogle the Zagreb architecture, this is not the tour for you. If you want an understanding of the city that you have chosen to visit then I can think of no better way to get started.
