I recently traveled to Cabo with my family of four—my wife and our two young sons—and we had an amazing experience on this tour. We were picked up directly from our hotel, the Hyatt Ziva at Sirena del Mar, and taken to the Cabo Adventure Center in the marina downtown.
I was surprised at how large and well-organized the operation was. The center had everything: a dolphin enclosure where the kids could watch dolphins through a viewing port, a coffee shop, and several other optional tours—all right in the heart of the marina. We originally considered doing the Dolphin Encounter, but at $500 for four people, it was a bit pricey for us.
Now, onto the Arch tour—the highlight of the day. The boat ride out to the famous Arch was a blast. The sea was a bit wavy, which our boys loved, and the water was so clear you could see all kinds of fish. Our guide, Manuel, and the captain were fantastic—entertaining, knowledgeable, and fun. We really lucked out getting them.
After the boat tour, we stopped at a locally-owned souvenir shop. While the prices were higher than other places around the marina, there was no pressure to buy, and it was nice to see handcrafted local art all in one spot. I respect the hustle, and the staff was very friendly.
Next, we visited a glass factory, which was one of the unexpected highlights. We watched the artisans make beautiful glass pieces, and when my 5-year-old asked, “Can my daddy make me a fish?” the guide actually let me try glassblowing myself! It was a fun, hands-on experience, and we ended up buying a few quirky pieces—including a glass turtle wearing a sombrero and drinking a beer. Where else can you find something like that?
From there, we went to a tequila tasting, and that’s when the group really started to loosen up. We sampled eight types of tequila, and our host generously gave us a few extra tastes once he saw we were genuinely interested. Again, no pressure to buy—but we walked out with three bottles. It was fun, interactive, and a great way to bond with the group.
After the tequila stop, we headed to a pearl shop in downtown Los Cabos. Traffic was heavy, so it took about an hour to get there—perfect timing for a tequila-fueled nap in the air-conditioned van. Even during the drive, our guide pointed out historic landmarks and shared bits of Cabo’s history, which was appreciated.
At the pearl shop, we got to play a game of Mexican bingo (Lotería), and ended up winning a pearl! Afterward, we had the option to explore the city square, but with the heat, we chose to relax in the van instead.
Throughout the trip, the food was great, and Manuel was incredibly attentive—always offering ice-cold water, assistance, and helpful tips at every stop. Big shoutout to Manuel for making our first trip to Cabo so memorable and fun.
