We just got back from our two day Mekong Delta tour. Although it was far too hot and humid, is was a quite adventurous tour and we had great fun. The tour started with a group of five – however, as the others had booked only a single-day tour, it was only our guide Big Handsome David and the two of us for day two.
Some outstanding experiences were the Sampan ride through the quiet and shady canals, the bike tour through Cai Be neighborhood with tropical fruits growing virtually everywhere, and the floating market. Having some coffee and freshly-pressed orange juice with pineapples on a boat while observing the trading really made up for getting up early.
A bit disappointing were the “cooking class” (scheduled for day one) and cooking demonstration (day two). For all three meals we had basically the same: springrolls (with the cooking class being how to roll and fry them from prepared ingredients) and Banh Xeo (with the cooking demonstration being how to pour prepared batter in a wok and adding prepared toppings) along with a variety of salad and tofu-based starters. Overall, the selection was fairly repetetive. Bonus points have to be given for considering our vegan diet.
The Homestay for the night was very rustical, but the family was really nice. As for the other stops, they were fairly short and basically just leading is from one stop to the next.
Lastly, our guide David was amazing and did a great job in leading us around and providing us with tons of information and insights.
