The tour was fantastic. Marta, the owner of a small local coffee plantation, and Delmy, the English-speaking guide, picked me up at the main place in San Pedro Las Huertas, and from the very beginning it felt warm and welcoming. (Surprisingly, I was the only visitor on this tour, but that didn’t dampen Marta and Delmy’s enthusiasm or energy for a moment.) After a short walk to a small plantation — filled with lots of information about coffee cultivation, other plants, and all sorts of fascinating details — we headed back to the village to Marta’s home. There, she showed me the traditional process of coffee preparation, including grinding on a lava stone and roasting over a wood stove. And finaly the coffee just tasted unbelievable good. I was truly impressed — this is a clear recommendation for anyone who prefers an intimate, authentic experience. But matching with the down to earth atmosphere there’s no organized pick‑up service from Antigua. I simply walked from Antigua to San Pedro Las Huertas. (about 45 minutes) and returned by local bus (3 quetzales).
