I contracted with TourRadar for a 4 day trip to the Gobi Desert for my husband and me. It was supposed to include round trip air tickets from Ulaanbaatar to the Gobi and back. I didn't understand that TourRadar is a booking company only and once they assign it to another tour company, they have nothing to do with the planning or any logistics even if the trip turns out to be something different than what I signed up for. They gave it to Agate Travel which turned it over to a local company, Amicus. Agate was very difficult to deal with and I received nothing about the plane reservations from Ulaanbaatar. I think that's because they didn't make any. They had a "back-up" plan of driving 10 hours in case the flight got cancelled. The day before we were to leave we were notified that it was cancelled. They were also supposed to make additional hotel reservations at a local hotel and when we checked on them, the hotel couldn't find them. It took several hours to straighten that out. I kept asking Agate for a detailed itinerary and details about what we should expect and a packing list. I received nothing. Amicus is a good local company and provided good service and a knowledgeable guide and friendly driver. Unfortunately, we had to drive back 10 hours with them because our flight got delayed 15 hours and we needed to be back in the city before then. We're still waiting to receive the paperwork from them so we can submit it to our travel insurance. i also requested the information for the first leg of the flight from Agate because I believe they never made them. I asked for a refund for the cancelled flight and they returned $60 for a flight that cost over $300. The guide and the driver had to make the trip to meet us but they charged us $300 to drive 10 hours.
If I had to book this trip again, I would go directly to Amicus and leave out the first two companies altogether. They provided us with 2 fun days of sight-seeing and made the 20 hours in the car less painful.
