Your host Putu will pick you up in the early morning and drive you to the Pejeng market, bursting with locals shopping. Putu will introduce you to the seasonal fruits, vegetables and spices on offer, and you’ll pick up a few ingredients for your upcoming cooking lesson. The market offers wonderful photo opportunities, so don't forget to bring your camera! Back home, you'll work together to prepare 2-3 authentic Balinese dishes. As you chop, grind and grill Putu will teach you about the spices she uses in her family recipes as well as the medicinal qualities of Balinese ingredients. Putu's kitchen is simple, with only a two burner cooktop, and you'll be impressed by the speed and fluidity with which she can prepare a complex menu with multiple dishes. Potential dishes could be Putu’s grilled eggplant with tomato, grilled fish with Balinese sambal (chili sauce), or a curry dish. The cooking lesson will last about 1-2 hours before you sit down and enjoy the meal.

Everything was lovely, the private cooking lesson was an awesome experience! Learned a lot through talking about the Balinese experience. The campus is beautiful, the engagement was pleasant and I felt comfortable throughout!

We had the most amazing time with Putu exploring a local market and then joining her in her home to cook an amazing meal! We were picked up at our hotel and toured a local market that was off the beaten path, learning much about local fruits and veggies. But the highlight was the delicious 5 entree meal that we made with Putu. The outdoor kitchen and friendly tutelage were great, and we really appreciated that most of the ingredients came from her own gardens. No previous kitchen skill required, but everything tasted like it was made by a chef, and the recipes were all things that you could make at home. A brilliant afternoon and super highly recommended

We had a fantastic time with Putu today. She gave us a wonderful tour of her local market and explained all the ingredients and things on offer. We were able to ask lots of questions and Putu was so knowledgeable. Her home is gorgeous, she explained all about the different aspects of Balinese life and culture. The cooking class was so hands on. I do plenty of Asian cooking at home but even I learnt several new things to take back with me to improve my skills. I would highly highly recommend to anyone looking for an authentic cooking class and/or market tour to join with Putu!
