This 5-hour private culinary experience will allow you to see one of the most authentic scenes of the city, the people and the local food, the Bazurto Public Market, the most appropriate place to obtain the ingredients that we will use in the preparation of our dishes Such as : Coconut Rice, Patacones, Fresh Salad, Sea Bass Ceviche, Garlic Prawns, Octopus, Lobster and Fried Fish (Our clients can choose three proteins). This Experience was specially designed for those who enjoy Local cuisine with the help of a traditional chef who will teach you in detail the step by step process to achieve an exquisite dish.

The meeting is at 8:00 a.m. or 45 minutes after the ship arrival.
Zone 1 at the pier in the Cartagena cruise port. Directions: upon disembarkation, walk approximately 500 feet along the pier to Zone 1 (where the containers are). A representative will be waiting for you here wearing a polo labeled 'Guianza Express SAS' and holding a sign with your name on it. He/she will then walk you to the bus/staging area (10-15 minute walk). A vehicle will be parked in the parking area of the cruise ship pier. Please DO NOT take the shuttle bus.

  • A minimum of 2 people per booking is required
You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.
  • For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.

This was a great experience. The open air market may not be for everyone but it really showed the diversity of fish, meat and produce available in the area. Our guide, Andres, was knowledgeable and entertaining. The menu was tailored to our taste. You don't have to have octopus but we like it. Bette, the chef\instructor taught us how to prepare it so it was tender. The entire menu was incredible. Thank you, Walter Guerrero, for a special experience.

My wife and I were there in Sept, 2019. It was the first cruise ship of the season. We were surprised that we were the only two signed up for the class. The owner of the tour company met us along with our guide. Since it was just the two of us he rented a taxi for the day and we were off. The tour of the local market area was interesting but not for the faint of heart. Narrow alleys that ran for blocks. We walked past tables with 15 hog heads prepared for sale. Large cauldrons of different local delicacies boiling and all types of fish and fruit. Our guide was fluent in English and several other languages. We proceeded to the house where the cooking was to take place. Two local ladies demonstrated preparation and cooking of lobster, shrimp ( 6 inches long), fish, plantain, coconut rice and prepared two types of ceviche. Neither spoke English but our guide did a good job of explaining. It was more of a demonstration of cooking that a class. We would have preferred more hands on. The guide was very aware of our ships schedule and made sure we were back with time to spare.

Entre todo lo que conocimos de Cartagena, realmente fue impresionante conocer el mercado y cocinar en una casa todo lo comprado en el mercado! Muy recomendable!!
